CYSTECTOMY (OPEN)

About CYSTECTOMY (OPEN)

Open Cystectomy is a more invasive procedure than laparoscopic cystectomy, which is the preferred surgical approach for managing benign ovarian cysts during
pregnancy. Open cystectomy has a longer recovery time and a greater risk of complications, and you can expect to modify your activities for at least six to eight
weeks. It may take up to 12 weeks to fully recover.

Laparoscopic Cystectomy is minimally invasive and well tolerated by both the mother and the fetus. Its often performed between the 12th and 16th weeks of gestation, when ovarian cysts are usually located in the cul-de-sac. Laparoscopic cystectomy offers several potential benefits, including: Shorter hospital stay, Fewer adhesions, Faster recovery, Lower uterine irritation, and Less intraoperative uterine manipulation.

You should discuss the surgery with your provider so you know exactly what to expect.
