About LAPAROSCOPIC MYOMECTOMY

A laparoscopic myomectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that removes uterine fibroids while preserving healthy uterine tissue. The procedure
involves:

  • Making small incisions in the abdomen

  • Using a laparoscope, which is a special instrument that contains a light and

  • video camera, to operate through the incisions

  • Inserting small instruments through the incisions to remove the fibroids

A laparoscopic myomectomy can be an effective treatment for: Abnormal bleeding, Pelvic pain and pressure, Abdominal and pelvic pain, Painful intercourse, and
Fertility and pregnancy complications.

  1. Risks of the procedure include:

  2. Bleeding during surgery, which may require a blood transfusion

  3. Infection of the bladder or surgical site

  4. Damage to surrounding organs (bladder, bowel, and ureters)

  5. Possible need for further surgery

Full recovery may take about 1 to 2 weeks. After surgery, you may feel some pain in your belly for several days, your belly may also be swollen, you may have a change in your bowel movements for a few days, and you may have some cramping for the first week. You should not lift anything heavy for about 1 week. Your doctor may talk to you about when you can have sex and when it is safe to try to become pregnant.
