TLH (TOTAL LAPAROSCOPIC HYSTERECTOMY)

ABOUT TLH(TOTAL LAPAROSCOPIC HYSTERECTOMY)

Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TLH) is a surgical procedure that removes the uterus and cervix through three or more small incisions in the abdomen. The uterus is separated from nearby structures and removed in sections through the laparoscope tube or through the vagina.

During the procedure, a small tube containing a telescope (laparoscope) and a tiny video camera is inserted through one of the small incisions. Instruments are then inserted through other small incisions in the abdomen or vagina to remove the womb, cervix, and any other parts of the reproductive system. In a robot-assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy, the doctor inserts the laparoscope and other instruments with the aid of robotic arms and then uses a computer station to control the instruments.

TLH is usually carried out under general anesthetic. Most people are able to stop taking pain medicine and increase their activity level after two weeks. In most cases, it takes 6 to 8 weeks for energy levels to return to normal.

Here are some tips for caring for you at home:

  • Activity

Rest when you feel tired. Getting enough sleep will help you recover. Try to walk each day. Avoid lifting anything that would make you strain.

  • Diet

You can eat your normal diet. If your stomach is upset, try bland, low-fat foods like plain rice, broiled chicken, toast, and yogurt.

A hysterectomy is a major surgical procedure and has both psychological and physical consequences.
